Alison completed her Masters in Educational Psychology, and Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Regina and her Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at the University of Saskatchewan. She is registered with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists with Authorized Practice Endorsement and is a member of the Psychological Association of Saskatchewan.

 

Alison has over 20 years of experience working with children, youth, families and adults in both the private and public sectors. Alison has worked in a variety of settings including public mental health, university counselling services and private practice clinics. In these settings Alison has assessed, diagnosed and treated a variety of mental health conditions.

 

Specific areas of treatment include: Anxiety (social, generalized, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias and panic attacks); Depression (postpartum, bipolar, major depressive disorder); Trauma; Parenting support; Behavioral challenges; Self-harm; Attention/focus/procrastination; Life transitions; Anger management.

 

Alison uses process-based therapeutic approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. The focus of therapy is to consider the context of each individual and teach psychological skills to handle painful feelings, memories, body sensations and thoughts, so they have less of an impact on functioning. Helping individuals discover what is important and inspiring, and use that to motivate, encourage and guide goals.
